On June 3, 2022, H.E. Ambassador MA Jianchun and Hon. Dr. Ahmadou Lamin Samateh, Minister of Health, signed a handover certificate of medical supplies, worth of 17 million Dalasis, to four China-aid health centers (in Farafenni, Kauur, Kudang and Karantaba), at the Chinese Embassy in The Gambia.

H.E. Ambassador MA reviewed the achievements of cooperation between the two countries in the field of health care in recent years, especially since the outbreak of COVID-19. H.E. Ambassador MA said that the four China-aid health centers have played a great role in improving the medical and health conditions of the local people in the vast rural areas of the interior of The Gambia since the said four health centers were built in the 1980s. As good brothers and partners, China and The Gambia have been working closely in the field of health care and have achieved fruitful results. To further implement the outcomes of the 8th Ministerial Conference of the FOCAC, the Chinese government donates a consignment of medical supplies to the Gambian government to further promote the professional capacities of the four health centers. H.E. Ambassador MA said, I am very pleased to inform you that a new batch of China Medical Team has arrived in Gambia on May 30 and they will continue to provide high-quality medical services to the local people. China is willing to continue to deepen pragmatic cooperation with The Gambia in various fields, including health care, to push forward the bilateral relations to a new level.

Hon. Dr. Samateh was pleased to learn about the arrival of the China Medical Team. China, and expressed his gratitude to Chinese government for its selfless assistance in the fields of medical and health care, infrastructure and so on, especially in fighting against the COVID-19. Hon. Dr. Samateh said that the Gambian side cherishes the friendship with China and adheres to the One China principle. The Gambia is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China in various fields, and continue to deepen friendship between the two countries and two peoples.
