On 10 May, H.E. Ambassador Liu Jin attended the International Chinese Language Day event jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy in The Gambia and Nusrat Senior Secondary School. Mr. Mamadi Ceesay, the principal of Nusrat and teachers&students from UTG Confucius Institute and China Cultural Corner of Nusrat attended the event.

H.E. Ambassador Liu introduced the background of the International Chinese Language Day in his speech, saying that language is a bridge for the exchange of civilizations. Not long ago, H.E. President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Civilization Initiative, advocating cultural exchanges transcend estrangement, mutual learning transcend clashes, and coexistence transcend feelings of superiority. The theme of this year's Chinese Language Day is "Chinese Language: Facilitating Dialogues across Civilizations", which is a testament to China's efforts to promote exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations. We welcome young friends from Gambia to work hard to learn Chinese, to promote exchanges among civilizations, and to welcome a bright future together.

Mr. Ceesay thanked China for its selfless help in the fields of people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and expressed his willingness to actively play the role of China cultural corner, promote students to learn Chinese, understand Chinese culture, and be an envoy of friendship between China and Gambia.

During the event, teachers from UTG Confucius Institute guided the students to practice calligraphy and paper-cutting. Students in the China Cultural Corner recited Chinese poems and sang Chinese songs. Members of the Gambia Kungfu Wushu Federation presented a wonderful Tai Chi performance. Young diplomat from the Chinese Embassy led the teachers and students to dance traditional Chinese dances happily.
