Recently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad of the Republic of The Gambia sent a note to the Chinese Embassy in The Gambia, stating that The Gambia is firmly committed to the one-China principle. The Gambian Foreign Minister Hon. Mamadou Tangara and Permanent Secretary Mr. Lang Yabou, reiterated the position during their meetings with the visiting Director-General of Department of African Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Wu Peng. 

The Gambian side stated that the Republic of The Gambia is firmly committed to the one-China principle, recognizing that there is but one China in the world, the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The Republic of The Gambia opposes any statement or action that undermines China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and supports all efforts made by China to achieve national reunification.
