On 5th November, a new Agreement on Economic and Technological Cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of The Gambia was signed by H.E. Ambassador Ma Jianchun and the Hon. Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad. In accordance to the signed agreement, the Government of the People's Republic of China agrees to provide the Government of the Republic of The Gambia with grant aid of 150 million RMB Yuan,equivalent to 1.2 billion in Dalasis, for implementation of the Projects decided by China and The Gambia through consultation.

During the interview, Ambassador Ma reviewed the fruitful outcomes achieved in the field of economic and technological cooperation since the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Ambassador Ma said that the signing of this agreement is a concrete action in implementing the consensus reached by the respective leaders of the two countries at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and as well as another milestone in deepening the economic and technological cooperation between two countries. Since the resumption of diplomatic ties, China and The Gambia have signed a number of economic and technological cooperation agreements. Under the framework of these agreements, the Chinese government has provided grant and aid to The Gambia, which have promoted the economic and social development of The Gambia, and brought tangible benefits to the Gambian people. Ambassador Ma said that China is ready to further strengthen cooperation with The Gambia, and bring more benefits to our two countries and peoples by promoting China-Gambia relations and practical cooperation.

Hon. Tangara expressed appreciation for the support from the Chinese government, and assure once again of The Gambia’s support to One-China policy. He said that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a huge impact on the economic and social development of The Gambia. In this severe situation, China’s assistance once again reflects the profound friendship between the two countries. The Gambian side is ready to work with China to continue deepening pragmatic cooperation between the two countries and push forward the bilateral relations to a new level.
