To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and The Gambia, the 23rd China Medical Team to The Gambia conducted a free medical outreach at Bansang Hospital in the Central River Region (CRR) from April 13 to 17, and donated medicines worth 1 million Dalasi to the hospital. Counsellor Zhan TONG of the Chinese Embassy in The Gambia, and Governor of Central River Region, Ousman Bah, attended the launching ceremony of the medical outreach and the donation event.

Counsellor TONG stated that medical and health care is one of the priorities of the cooperation between China and The Gambia. Bansang, as the starting point for the China Medical Team to The Gambia, has witnessed decades of friendly cooperation in health between the two nations. In the ten years since the resumption of diplomatic relations, both sides have achieved fruitful results in medical services, specialist cooperation, material assistance, malaria prevention and control, as well as capacity building. China will continue to deepen health cooperation and further strengthen the friendship between the two countries.

The Gambian side fondly recalled the traditional friendship with the China Medical Team, expressed gratitude to China's continued assistance in health sector, and looked forward to more medical cooperation that benefits the people.
During the medical outreach, the China Medical Team provided free medical services to nearly a thousand patients and conducted specialized training for local medical staff in electrocardiogram (ECG) operation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), which was welcomed by the local people and attracted media attention.
